I love sharing my story on different platforms and venues. In this interview on the Sparkles 4 Mental Health podcast with Dr. Christine Sauer, we talk about how we live in a world that often sees limitations before potential and how some individuals have the ability to challenge common beliefs and turn setbacks into stepping stones for success.
Dr. Christine seems to think I am one of those people, but do you know what? So is she, and so are you. Many aren’t aware, but I sincerely believe that every person on this planet is resilient in their unique way.
Making the Impossible Possible — For six decades, and still going strong.
Despite my parents’ limited education, they instilled in us the belief that no matter the challenge or obstacle, there are many ways to go around it. This fundamental belief has motivated me to make the impossible possible for the past six decades.
Since then, whenever I face challenges or obstacles, I say, “Okay, let’s find solutions.” I then write down my thoughts and ideas about the challenge or obstacle, incorporating points about my dream as I work on finding a solution.
For example, because I am non-sighted, society says that I fall in the category of “Disability,” and that leads many people to think I mainly focus on working with disabled individuals.
Here’s the thing: I don’t like the word DISABILITY. Just remove the first three letters, and you’re left with ABILITY.
Ah, that’s better! My work and the people I work with fall within the category of ABILITY, which further translates into the ‘People of Resilience. ‘ Within the ‘Making the Impossible Possible’ movement, we collectively stand with and for the ‘People of Resilience.’
This is where it all begins to make sense.
No, I don’t work with Disabled Individuals; I work with resilient people, and that, my friend, is you, me, and everyone else on the planet. My passion is to empower the general public, healthcare professionals, and inclusive communities to appreciate and acknowledge their extraordinary strength and relentless persistence, valuing their contributions to society.
I am on a mission to wipe out the word DISABILITY completely, permanently delete it and replace it with RESILIENCE all across Canada.
Let’s turn our focus to resilience.
If you learn anything from this blog post and podcast interview, I hope it’s the understanding that we are ALL Resilient in our own way. I would love for us to connect if you doubt that for yourself. I assure you it won’t take more than one conversation to see the possibilities—and that you, too, are resilient. I am just a phone call or email away.
